What is the aim of Make Motherhood Diverse?
The ultimate goal of Make Motherhood Diverse (MMD) is to evolve beyond its founder’s original vision, transforming into a space for all types of mothers. It’s not intended to be a lifelong personal endeavor, as both founders hope it will eventually flourish independently. The end ambition may involve a book, a lasting brand partnership, and perhaps even a charity to provide practical support for mothers.
What do you view as Instagram’s primary strength, and how does it foster change?
Instagram’s strength lies in its ability to create communities around ideas and causes, returning influence to individuals. Traditional advertising methods have become less appealing, empowering people to connect directly. This shift has especially benefited mothers, enabling many to earn an income while staying at home, fostering a more genuine approach to marketing and brand connections.
What are Instagram’s downsides?
Instagram can sometimes encourage harmful comparisons, making users feel inadequate by showing only a selective glimpse into others’ lives. It’s easy to feel inadequate when struggling with personal challenges, so the comparison trap is understandable.
How do you see the platform’s future?
The future of Instagram is hard to predict due to the vastness of its vision. As a leader in social media transformation, the platform, along with Facebook, is likely pursuing new, impactful developments.
What about your upcoming book? How does it relate to your Instagram work, and how has the writing process been?
The book aligns with Instagram by sharing personal experiences as a young Black woman navigating numerous challenges. Many Instagram captions are derived from previously written reflections, resonating deeply with the audience. The writing process, though emotionally intense, is intended to benefit other women and make a meaningful impact.
